Who We Are - Chelmsford Young Farmers Club

Our Vision

How do we help in Chelmsford?

How do we help in Chelmsford?

At Chelmsford Young Farmers Club, we recognise the importance of building relationships with people in our local area and teaching our young people to be custodians of our city and surrounding rural lands.

From volunteering, community engagement, endorsement, and supporting local businesses, we are proud to be part of our wider community and set examples to groups far and wide.

How do we help in Chelmsford?

We provide opportunities for our members to give back to their community by volunteering at the Essex Young Farmers Show, litter picking days in and around Chelmsford, and week to week visits to small businesses that massively prosper by our regular meetings.

Our Supported Charities

Chelmsford Young farmers Supported charity

Barrow Farm RDA

We are proud to support Barrow Farm RDA, a specialist Riding for the Disabled Association centre based near Ingatestone and Chelmsford in Essex. Since 1976, Barrow Farm has provided riding, carriage driving and horse-based activities for children and adults with disabilities, helping improve confidence, physical wellbeing, independence and social inclusion.

As part of the national Riding for the Disabled Association network, Barrow Farm offers opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to experience the therapeutic and emotional benefits of working with horses. Their purpose-built equestrian centre includes indoor and outdoor riding facilities, specially trained ponies, qualified coaches and a dedicated team of volunteers who make every session possible.

Each week, Barrow Farm supports well over 100 riders and participants from across Essex, providing thousands of sessions every year. The charity works to ensure that financial circumstances are never a barrier to accessing their services, relying heavily on fundraising, donations and volunteer support to continue their life-changing work.

YANA

We are proud to support YANA: You Are Not Alone, a charity dedicated to improving mental health and wellbeing within the agricultural and rural communities across East Anglia, including Essex.

Originally founded in Norfolk in 2008, YANA was created to provide accessible mental health support for people working in farming and rural businesses — industries that can often bring unique pressures, isolation and stress. The charity became independent in 2020 and has continued expanding its support network across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire.

YANA provides confidential support through its helpline, fully funded counselling services, mental health awareness training and community outreach programmes. Their work helps ensure that farmers, agricultural workers and those living in rural communities know that support is available and that nobody has to struggle alone.

The charity also works hard to raise awareness around mental health and suicide prevention within the farming industry, helping break down stigma and encourage open conversations. Through initiatives such as Mental Health First Aid training and the distribution of suicide prevention resources, YANA continues to make a real difference across rural communities.
